In March 2025, Creatives Now hosted a series of free community textile workshops led by local artist Sally Tomato, as part of the Bolton Town of Culture programme. Held every Saturday from 12–3 pm, the workshops invited participants of all ages to come together and explore the possibilities of turning household waste into art.

Over several weekends, residents of all backgrounds and skill levels collaborated to transform single-use plastics, fast fashion remnants and waste paper into meaningful, climate-themed art pieces. Drawing inspiration from Judy Chicago’s iconic feminist installation The Dinner Party, the group co-created a large-scale decorative hanging and a striking climate summit-themed table and chairs.

The workshops fostered a unique intergenerational atmosphere, where families, students, retirees and teenage community members worked side by side, learning textile techniques while discussing environmental themes. The final artworks served not only as powerful visual statements about sustainability but also as symbols of unity and creative action within the community.

The resulting installations were unveiled as part of the Bolton Town of Culture celebrations, drawing praise for their ingenuity, collaborative spirit and bold commentary on climate issues. The project stands as a testament to the power of art in inspiring local engagement and rethinking waste through creativity.
