This summer, Belonging is a Social Construct invites artists, writers and creatives to explore what it means to belong through the lenses of culture, resistance and representation. In a time of shifting identities and contested spaces, this exhibition asks: who gets to belong, and on what terms?

About the event

In this evolving exhibition, voices from across the community come together to examine how belonging is shaped, not given. From the everyday to the radical, the works on show reveal how culture, resistance and representation intersect in the making of identity. Through collaborative pieces, personal narratives and bold visual statements, this exhibition invites you to explore how identities are not fixed but created, invented and claimed, contantly contested, held by mutual support, and require kindness and understanding of the value of difference to flourish.

Belonging is a Social Contract features the work of over 20 local artists: Billy Burrows, Kit Byfield, David Charges, David Chow, Prue Clarke, Billy Currid, Charlie Currid, K.C. Finn, Liv Hextall, Sammy Holden, Stewart Knights, Caz Latham, Anita Memar, SAM Mendes, Fay Metcalfe, Georgina Niemtus, Brynn Richards, Rhain Richards, Amanda Ryan, Jennifer Smith, SallyTomato, Sam Wilson and Alfie Wright alongside:
