FOR CHANGE

Cardboard Forests and Surreal Worlds: A Collaborative Installation with Chris Jones

Creatives Now was proud to host Aram Han Sifuentes for a public talk at Working Class Movement Library and a participatory workshop at Salford Museum and Art Gallery. These events marked the first phase of an ongoing transatlantic collaboration with Aram, establishing dialogue and shared practice between UK and US contexts.

Aram Han Sifuentes is a Chicago-based social practice artist, educator and organiser whose work addresses citizenship, migration, labour and systems of inclusion and exclusion. Born in Seoul and raised in the United States, her practice centres immigrant and working-class experiences, often using textiles, participatory performance and institutional critique to examine who has access to rights, representation and belonging. Her projects frequently reimagine official documents, challenge bureaucratic authority and create collective spaces for reflection and action.

At the Working Class Movement Library, Aram delivered a talk exploring the intersections of art, labour and migration. Drawing on her long-term projects, she discussed how creative practice can interrogate systems that define citizenship and belonging, and how artists can work alongside communities to question and reshape those structures. The Library’s archive of working-class activism and collective struggle provided a resonant context for conversations about solidarity, power and shared histories.

At Salford Museum and Art Gallery, Aram led a participatory workshop inviting attendees to engage directly with themes of citizenship, identity and collective authorship. Participants reflected on experiences of inclusion and exclusion and were guided through collaborative making processes that reimagined authority and documentation. The workshop created space for open dialogue across generations and backgrounds, reinforcing Creatives Now’s commitment to accessible, socially engaged artistic practice.

This initial phase of transatlantic activity laid the groundwork for continued collaboration with Aram Han Sifuentes. Building on the relationships and conversations formed through the talk and workshop, future phases will deepen exchange through further projects, exhibitions and shared research, strengthening connections between artists and communities across the Atlantic.
